Holiday Cleaning Checklist for Office and Home
Tis’ the season of holiday parties, office parties, and in-laws! With the joy of the holiday season around the corner, you may need some tips and tricks to get your home or office in pristine condition for dinners and holiday get-togethers, and of course, how to clean up afterward. We have created a home & office holiday cleaning checklist that might help.
Office Holiday Cleaning Checklist
1. Organize and store away valuable items
It may seem obvious, but with all that is going on, you may forget to organize the office before a party. Make sure you store away any confidential items. At office parties, coworkers can bring friends and family, and they may not be cleared to view client information or other sensitive files. So make sure they are stored away!
2. Leave everything spotless
Although the party will be busy and you are going to clean up again afterward, cleaning before the party will make post-party cleaning a lot easier. Cleaning will, of course, make the venue more appealing. When decorating, you don’t want to place items on dirty tables or windows, so cleaning beforehand is essential. Make sure to wipe down counters, sweep and mop the floor, clean off windows and mirrors, and dust any surfaces.
3. Decorate to help you after
One of the best parts of the party-planning process is the decorations. Covering the office in fall leaves, snowflakes, and festive messages can make the area more joyful even before the party. However, do yourself a favor and make sure to decorate in ways that will make cleaning-up after easier. For example, use disposable table cloths that you can throw away. Additionally, using non-stick adhesives can help decorate windows and mirrors without leaving tape marks that will have to be scrubbed down later.
4. Cleaning up a post-party mess
After an office party, it is essential to store away any leftover food items and beverages right away. Failure to do so can result in flies, bugs and maybe even other foreign animals to your office that wants to eat the left out food. Additionally, the quicker you clean the mess, the easier it will be to clean up and stow away holiday decorations.
5. Leave the office spotless during the break
No one wants to come back to work in an office that is disorganized, dirty, and doesn’t smell right. Before leaving for a vacation or holiday break, make sure to follow these steps to ensure a clean office: sweep and mop the floors, disinfect any countertops, clear the kitchen, clean the bathroom, and throw away and trash bags.
Home Holiday Cleaning Checklist
Organize your space
Our homes can be filled with random magazines, papers, shoes and items thrown around in the living room, kitchen and other common areas. Cleaning and putting away these items will declutter the space as well as declutter your mind since getting ready for the holiday season can be a stressful time. Removing these items can make your area look cleaner if you are on a time crunch.
Clean your kitchen
Holiday parties tend to gather around the food. Whether it is a potluck where everyone is bringing dishes, a catered event, or your home-cooked meals, the meal will most likely start out in the kitchen. Make sure to clean all countertops and appliances, including your stovetop, oven, and microwave. Additionally, make sure to clean out your fridge. You want to make sure you have enough room available. Chances are there will be leftovers, or you will have to store food in the fridge until dinner is served.
Clean the bathrooms
The testament to a clean home is how clean the bathrooms are. To impress your guests and make them feel at home, make sure to sweep and mop the bathroom floor and declutter any countertops. Wiping down the mirrors and bathroom appliances is essential to avoid spreading germs. For a special touch, add a candle or air freshener to keep the fresh scent.
Make room for common areas
Depending on where your party is located, you want to make sure there is ample space for your guests. Make sure to organize your home according to the event occurring in the room and the number of people attending. If your party is in your living room, try to remove decorative pieces such as vases or side tables to make more room for chairs for people to sit in.
Enjoy the holidays
Although cleaning your house before guests show up is essential, it is more important to focus on spending time with loved ones and enjoying moments with them over the holidays.
